Boys’ Hostel

The Boys’ Hostel of Shri Ram College of Commerce has been an integral part of the institution since its establishment in 1926. Originally situated on Bela Road in the walled city of Delhi, the Hostel moved along with the College to the University of Delhi's North Campus in 1954. Over the decades, it has earned a distinguished reputation for fostering academic excellence, discipline, and a vibrant residential Community.

Conveniently located adjacent to the College's main Academic building, the Hostel provides safe, secure, and affordable accommodation for 170 students. Its spacious and well-ventilated infrastructure includes comfortably furnished rooms, a hygienic dining hall, a common room, and campus-wide Wi-Fi connectivity. The common room serves as a hub for recreation and relaxation, offering facilities such as table tennis, carrom, chess, LED television with a home theatre system, along with newspapers and magazines. Residents also benefit from an uninterrupted supply of hot and cold water throughout the year.

Life at the SRCC Boys’ Hostel extends beyond accommodation. It nurtures a culture of mutual respect, responsibility, and camaraderie among students from diverse cultural and geographical backgrounds. The hostel encourages its residents to uphold the values of integrity, cooperation, and academic commitment that have long been associated with SRCC. As an extension of the college community, it provides an enriching environment where students grow intellectually, socially, and personally while contributing to the rich traditions and dynamic spirit of the institution.

Governance

The administration of the Boys’ Hostel functions under the overall guidance and supervision of the Warden, who is responsible for ensuring the smooth management of Hostel affairs and maintaining discipline and student welfare. The Warden is supported by the Hostel Students’ Union, which acts as a representative body and facilitates effective communication between the residents and the hostel administration. The Hostel Committee, chaired by the Principal, is the apex governing body responsible for formulating the Hostel's rules, regulations, and policies. It serves as the final authority on all matters relating to hostel administration, ensuring transparent governance and the orderly functioning of the residential community.

Hostel Fee

At the time of admission, every resident is required to pay the prescribed Annual Fee and Security Deposit as applicable. In addition to these one-time payments, residents are required to pay the Quarterly Fee, comprising Electricity Charges, Water Charges, and Mess Fees, on an actual consumption basis. These Quarterly charges are payable after admission and must be deposited within the stipulated time to ensure the uninterrupted provision of Hostel facilities and services. Refund of Charges

The residents are at liberty to withdraw their admission from the hostel at any time. The following rule shall be applicable for settlement of accounts and refund of charges & security on withdrawal of admission from the Hostel:

1. If room is vacated within 10 days of the admission Rs.5,000/- shall be deducted from the Annual Charges paid by the resident. In case room is vacated after 10 days, Annual Charges shall not be refunded.
2. Mess charges shall be recovered on actual basis.
3. Actual electricity and water charges for the month shall be recovered irrespective of the date the room is vacated.

Discipline & Code of Conduct

Students must carry the Hostel Identity Card with them and produce the same on demand by College/Hostel officials.

Since the College class-rooms are in the proximity of the Hostel rooms, care should be taken not to disturb the college atmosphere by playing loud music, etc.

Lady visitors are not allowed to enter the Hostel. However, they may meet the resident concerned only upto 7.00 p.m. outside the hostel/in the Common Room.

Ragging in any form, causing mental and physical agony and abetment of ragging, is strictly prohibited under the University Ordinance XV (C) and will invite severe discippnary action even to the extent of expulsion from the Hostel.

Consumption of liquor, and/or contraband drugs, and/or smoking is strictly prohibited during the resident’s stay in the Hostel. Anyone found guilty of contravening this regulation will be expelled from the Hostel immediately and fine of Rs. 20,000/- may be imposed as well.

Residents are not allowed to park their vehicles adjacent to the Hostel compound.

Resident who stays away for more than a week without permission will be payable to lose the Hostel seat and may not be considered for admission in the hostel even in the following year(s).

The Warden can, without assigning any reason, change room allotted to a hostel inmate.

Any violation of Hostel Rules mentioned above or elsewhere in the prospectus shall lead to discippnary action, including fines, ranging from Rs. 500/- to Rs.15,000/- by the Warden. In more serious cases, or in cases of repeated violation, the Hostel shall suspend and/or expel the resident.

Mess Regulations

Mess charges must be cleared within 7 days of the issuance of the mess bill faipng which a late fine of Rs. 20/- per day will charged upto the end of a month. In the first week of the following month, the parents/local guardians will be informed and the residents concerned will not be allowed to have food in the mess.

Meal timings are as follows:

Breakfast		8.00am to 9.00 am
Lunch		1.00pm to 2.00pm
Tea		5.00pm to 5.30 pm
Dinner		8.00pm to 9.00pm

The mess timings may change depending upon the situation.

Charges per month will be according to the actual mess expenditure incurred as agreed with the Student council time to time.

Hostel Charges are subject to revision from time to time.

No crockery or food can be taken out of the Dining Hall except during indisposition of the student for which permission in writing. In such cases, only disposable plates will be used.

No guests are allowed in the Mess.

Exercise of food option–vegetarian or non-vegetarian – can be allowed once a week only. However charges for non-vegetarian meals will be added to the mess bill.

Vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals are cooked in the same kitchen and are served in the same dining hall.

Entry & Exit Regulation

Hostel security guards posted at the two gates of the Hostel have the right to ask for the identity proof of visitors, guests and residents of the Hostel.

Security guards have moreover the right to search bags and belongings being taken in or out of the Hostel by residents, staff, guests and all other visitors, or to refuse entry to visitors and guests.

Every resident is required to record their entry into and exit from the hostel by signing the prescribed register at the designated point. Any resident found leaving or entering the hostel without making the required entry in the register shall be deemed to have violated the hostel rules and may be liable to appropriate disciplinary action.

 

Provision for Leave

Residents may avail of the following types of leave:-

Leave to visit L.G. - Weekend Saturdays and Sundays) and/or On Gazetted Holidays (max four times in a month)

Home leave – Vacation / Breaks / illness / unexpected reasons.

Residents wishing to proceed on leave must submit their leave application in the prescribed format at least 24 hours in advance. Leave shall be granted only after obtaining the approval of the Warden, and residents may leave the hostel only after their application has been duly sanctioned. In the case of Local Guardian Leave, Home Leave, or Leave for Special Purpose, a prior written request or consent from the parent or local guardian must be submitted to the Hostel Office. Failure to provide the requisite written information or obtaining prior permission before proceeding on leave may be treated as a violation of Hostel rules and may invite appropriate disciplinary action.
